Course objectives
In the six bi-weekly sessions during the semester, students will have encountered six professional translators active in different sectors of the market (with non-literary/specialized translation both from and into English), translated texts of the latter´s choice and received their thorough feedback (both oral and written). They will have discussed skills, resources and priorities relevant to the respective translation domains. By doing this, they will have gained confidence in choosing their preferred translation domain/s and gained new insights into how they can shape their professional skills and attitudes. The translators and translation domains will be announced by the beginning of the semester.
Syllabus
  • Six sessions with professional translators over translations assigned by them. En-Cz and Cz-En translation. Topics addressed: Terminology; resources; communication with clients; client expectations; registers; glossary-keeping; expanding one´s specialization.
Assessment methods
Evaluation based on the translations done throughout the semester.
