Course objectives
For this practical seminar students will read complete essays in Czech by contemporary authors and translate selected extracts from them. Class time will be given over to discussion of students’ work prepared in advance. The course literature has been chosen to represent a wide range of lengths, styles, topics, purposes and interests.

Teaching methods
Weekly 1 1/2 hour seminar. Translation homework assignments, feedback, class discussion, presentations by invited professionals.
Assessment methods
Assessment is by class contribution and three short Czech-English translations + examination task.
