Course objectives
The course this semester will focus primarily, this semester, on aspects of film and television set in the north of England, Scotland, and Wales. The aim of the course is to explore and analyse related aspects of regional-national identity, in the context both of cultural identity and the increasingly divided and confused nature of current British identity, in relation to class, ethnicity, gender and landscape and related geographical elements, in particular.
Learning outcomes
Students completing the course will have gained an understanding of the society, culture and problems of the more northerly regions of Britain, including the national regions of Scotland and Wales and as expressed and explored in a series of late twentieth century and early twenty-first century films and television series and serials.

Teaching methods
The course will be taught through a combination of small group and class discussion and analysis
Assessment methods
The course will be assessed on the basis of a combination of attendance and oral contribution (40%) and an essay of 6-8 pages to be submitted in hard copy form to the teacher of the course(60%).
