Cíle předmětu
Students will consolidate and enhance their understanding of the concept of style and refine their sensitivity for perception of style in literary texts in Czech and English and, finally, will get some practice in applying these skills in improving their translation performance. They will be able to reflect on and discuss the definitions of the concept of style, the functions of style, stylistic means in Czech and English, simplified concepts of style, the system of expression proposed by Fr. Miko, mocrostylistics and macrostylistics, syntax and punctuation as stylistic elements, focalization, semantic differential, glutination, and other language phenomena involved in construction of style - all that in consideration of specific texts and their translations. Students will enhance their competence in translating and evaluating stylistic shifts in both published and their own translations and get some other insights into style through the use of stylistic experiment and modelling.

Výukové metody
Students will increase their stylistic/translation competence through analyzing assigned source texts and translations, their own translation work, peer feedback provision, and class discussions of assigned readings.
Metody hodnocení
The evaluation will include: class contribution, written stylistic and translation analysis of an assigned literary text and translation of a selected extract.
