Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the area of pre-archival care and the usage and preservation of archive materials. Attention is focused on the development and current state of records management, including electronic systems. Undergraduates are informed about cultural and educational archive activities, which also include academic and editorial work. Another integral part of the external presentation of the archive is the digitalization of archival documents.
Learning outcomes
Upon completing the course students will be able to:
- understand the issue of pre-archival conservation;
- interpret the circulation of an author’s documents and the foundations of writing activities;
- use this knowledge when working on archival collections;
- independently create an archival aid as part of academic work;
- explain the function of archives as part of academic and educational activities, and in making records available;
- distinguish the basic types of archival institutes;
- understand current issues in archival science.
