Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic terminology of the history of administration, including an overview of the territorial development of the Czech lands and of the historical development of state administration in the Czech lands up to the year 1526, with an emphasis on its gradual institutionalization in the fields of political, financial and legal administration. Another aim is to introduce the basic features of other types of administration, namely municipal, patrimonial and ecclesiastical. In the seminar part, the aim is to introduce students to the sources of the history of administration, and the fundamental editions and research approaches.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- explain the basic concepts of public and state administration;
- chart the territorial development of the Czech state until 1526;
- characterize individual administrative institutions and describe their development;
- work with basic sources, editions and literature on the history of the administration of the period.

  • - The territorial development of the Czech lands in the Middle Ages.
  • - The development of administration under the Přemyslids.
  • - The development of administration under the Luxembourgs.
  • - Changes in administration in the Hussite period.
  • - The development of administration in the Jagiellonian period.
