Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Languages and literacy of the Eurasian North is a course taught in English by guest-lecturers. The particular topic of the course always differs. At the end of the course students should be able to name features of the languages and literatures regarded, express categories for comparison, illustrate the use of such categories, compare social, political or cultural position of different languages and literatures, and evaluate the situation in terms of one language and literature.
Syllabus
  • The course is in the fall 2010 focused on the Udmurt language. An intensive language course will be held in English in the second half of November by dr Kozmács István from the University of Szeged. The course is in the fall 2009 focused on the language situation in Sameland and especially on sociolinguistics of South Sámi (dr Todal – October 15th, 13:20-16:30 K23), literature (prof. Gaski – October 6th, 11:40-14:50 D51), history of Sameland (Somby – October 13th, 11:40-14:50 D51) and mythology of Eastern Fenno-Ugric peoples (prof. Napolskikh – 9. and 16.11. 10-11:30 K32, 10. and 17.11. 11:40-13:10 A31, 11. and 18.11. 10-11:30 K23, 12.11. 11:40-13:10 D31, 13.11. 10:50-12:20 K21).
