Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Languages and literacy of the Eurasian North is a course taught in English by guest-lecturers. The particular topic of the course always differs. At the end of the course students should be able to name features of the languages and literatures regarded, express categories for comparison, illustrate the use of such categories, compare social, political or cultural position of different languages and literatures, and evaluate the situation in terms of one language and literature.
Syllabus
  • In the spring 2011, the course continues with the Udmurt language (April 4-8); a block of lectures on old Sámi religion tought by prof. Hakan Rydving (Uni. of Bergen) will be added (May 4-6). The course was in the fall 2010 focused on the Udmurt language. The intensive language course was be held in English by dr Kozmács István from the University of Szeged.
  • The course was in the fall 2009 focused on the language situation in Sameland and especially on sociolinguistics of South Sámi (dr Todal), literature (prof. Gaski), history of Sameland (Somby) and mythology of Eastern Fenno-Ugric peoples (prof. Napolskikh).
