Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain main issues of the modern history of Lithuania and Poland (from the 17th century to the 20th century).
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student should be able: - to identify main periods of political and social development of Poland and Lithuania in 1569-1940; - to describe the trends of political, social and cultural development at the times of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, under the rule of Russian, Prussian and Austrian Empires and the republic between the world wars; - to describe the specific features of the historical development on the territory of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and differences in their historical interpretation; - to describe the political and social factors, which formed modern nations and modern republics in polish and Lithuanian lands.

Teaching methods
Lectures, class discussion, homeworks, reading.
Assessment methods
Students choose between methods of examination mentioned below:
1) Written report on the given topic and it's oral presentation at the class-discussion (max 5 pts.). PLUS final written exam: students are given 3 questions and choose 1 to answer to (max 5 pts.). PLUS active participation at class-discussions (max 5 pts.).
The positive final evaluation presupposes student has min 12 pts. after final examination.
