Course objectives
This is the fourth of the six parts of the basic course of the Lithuanian language. Students proceed into the morphology of Lithuanian and develop basic conversational skills.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, the student will be able to understand and use the more complex morphological and syntactical structures of Lithuanian nouns and verbs, as well as better understand the authentic language in written and spoken form.

  • Grammar topics: • morphology of Lithuanian nouns: determined adjectives • non-finite verbal forms: participles (dalyviai), gerunds (padalyviai) • time expressions • conjunctions and subordinate clauses • particles and interjections
  • Conversational topics: • Lithuanian landscape • flora and fauna • holidays and traditions • colloquial Lithuanian, slang

Teaching methods
Lectures on grammar system, reading, listening, speaking, translation exercises, team work, homeworks.
Assessment methods
Within the course students shall pass 3 subtests aimed at conversational and orthographic skills in Lithuanian, terms of the tests being set by the lecturer. The final mark is generated by one of following methods: 1) As the arithmetic mean of the 3 previous tests: if the participant finds the resulting value acceptable, it is considered as the final mark. 2) If the resulting value is for the participant not acceptable, the student passes a regular final exam, leading to the final mark of the course.
