Course objectives
Reading and interpreting of authentic Lithuanian texts. At the end of the course, students should be able to: - understand the main differences between common Lithuanian and its variations (archaic forms, dialects, slang) - interpret basic texts of the Lithuanian classical literature.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course students should be able to read and translate Lithuanian texts by using vocabulary. This part of the course is based on reading the texts of the second half of the twentieth century and contemporary literature.
Syllabus
  • The texts to be read are selected regarding the students' level of knowledge. The selection is made from the classics of Lithuanian fiction. The texts for the Spring semester 2023 see above.

Teaching methods
Lectures, class discussion, homeworks, reading.
Assessment methods
The student's work in class is evaluated (max. 10 points). At the end the written exam is held: the student is required to translate a piece of the text, which has been read in class and to answer questions concerning the context of the text and the language of the author (max. 5 points). Minimum amount of points for getting a credit: 12.
