Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to get the students acquainted with the origin and the devolopment of the South Slavonic vocabulary. The lecture deals with the inherited Proto-Slavic (or Indoeuropean) lexicon as well as with the loanwords from another languages.
Syllabus
  • 1. South Slavonic languages as a component of the Indo-European language family. 2. Indo-European proto-language. 3. Proto-Slavic and the slavic homeland. Migration of the Slavs to the Balkans. 4. Etymological research in the South Slavic countries. 5. Etymological analysis of the South Slavonic vocabulary. 6. Etymology and another sciences (archeology, ethnology, history). 7. Formal and semantic word-formation in the South Slavonic languages. 8. Loanwords in the South Slavonic languages.
