Course objectives
The aim of the course is to learn the basic rules of translations from South Slavonic languages to Czech, new lexical items from the areas of linguistics, literature, politics, history, law, economy, natural sciences etc. At the end of the course students will - be able to demonstrate the knowledge of South Slavonic languages (especially Bulgarian, Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, and Macedonian). - have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of translating. - have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of comparative study of Slavonic languages - be familiar with Slavonic grammar.
Syllabus
  • Every seminar has the following structure: 1. short presentation of a certain problem of translation (based on a project from a translatology study); 2. team work on translation of a Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, or Macedonian text; 3. reading of the translated text and discussion.
