Course objectives
The course is dedicated to a practice of a linguistic research in the field of development of Czech language and theoretic background to this research. At the end of the course, the students will be able to work independently in the field, namely in the area of phonology and morphology; they get an overview of basic literature of the field; will be oriented in the set of a source material; they learn to acquire material for their study and to analyze it due to the target of their research.
Syllabus
  • 1. Development of the Czech language. 2. Basic literature of the field. 3. Search and selection of the literature. 4. Sources: manuscripts, prints, editions. 5. Selecting sources for the research. 6. Acquiring linguistic material. 7. Interpretation and analysis of the material. 8. Preparing a presentation of the research findings.

Teaching methods
Teacher lecturing, seminar discussions, analysis of an Old Czech text, reading of the scientific literature, seminar paper/presentation.
Assessment methods
To successful completion of the course is required an active participation in the seminar and a seminar work, which presents the results of a student's research, either orally in the seminar or in writing.
