CJA015 ModCz Stylistics
Requirements for participation in the seminar are: to complete courses in phonetics and phonology, morphology, word-formation, lexicology, syntax and literary theory. The seminar is aimed primarily at future teachers, who have already completed their exam in stylistics.

Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to develop skills of students, based on acquired knowledge from modern stylistics and o competences relating to both collective and individual work with texts. The course should further develop students´ ability to apply the knowledge, skills and competences in higher classes of primary schools or at secondary schools, working with texts belonging to various genres.
Syllabus
  • A. Stylistics and its position in the process of education (educational programmes of various types); possibilities and preliminaries. B. Possibilities of stylistic analysis at primary and secondary schools (stylistic characterization of means of expressions at all language levels – composition of a text from the viewpoint of linguistic stylistics – stylistic factors – stylistic norms – spheres of style/functional styles). C. Application of theoretical knowledge during practical work with texts with regard to the specific addressees (primary and secondary school students).

Teaching methods
Collective and individual work with the assigned texts developing the ability to apply the theoretical and methodological knowledge with regard to the process of education.
Assessment methods
Regular participation in classes (at least min. 75%) and one independently prepared presentation are required. The task of students will be to find one text from the sphere dealt with in seminars and to prepare its brief analysis, to present it in classes and to be able to respond to other participants´ questions. One of the main criteria for these analyses will be the extent to which they can be used in the process of education.
