Course objectives
This course provides the students with a basic introduction to several trends in contemporary, mainly North American, theoretical thought that are not yet familiar in Czech theoretical context. Topics covered include an introduction to Marxist oriented literary criticism, the connection between narrative semantics and artificial intelligence, and different attitudes towards the theoretical grasp of fiction and narrative. The course will also enable the student to compare particular foreign attitudes with theories that are known in the Czech theoretical and cultural context. The main part goal of the course is to introduce students to the original versions of particular theoretical texts, and eventually to acquaint them with their English versions.
