Course objectives
The seminar will bring the students information concerning the life and work of Jan Blahoslav in the context of his time.
Syllabus
  • Jan Blahoslav was one of the leading figures of the Brotherhood Unity and a devoted Humanist. He was the author of many crucial works, which have been important for the Czech literature in general. Students will get to know his life, formed by fights for the Brotherhood Unity as well as within the Brotherhood. The circumstances of the creation of Blahoslavs works will be given. Students will above all read characteristic excerpts from particular texts which will help them to understand the intention with which they were created and their importance within Czech culture.
