Course objectives
An allegorical journey is one of the traditionally important ways, and also, as evidenced by modern work, a perspectively open allegorical depiction with an eye-catching reflexive accent. Diverse intellectual and artistic currents can be very clearly specified in the chosen topic in the course of literary development. With the analysis of relevant texts their context in the overall theme will be indicated. This relation of works from various eras demonstrates the coherence of the development of literature. Questioning of the constants of human existence and the meaning of life is forever provoking, and the genre of an allegorical journey with its eye-catching meditative content shows the reader what remains, what changes, and what may possibly change in the future. This assessment of the subject of allegorical journey of course refers to world literature as well, which the seminar will take into account.
Students completing the course will be able to:
describe the characteristics of allegorical texts;
interpret hidden levels of meaning is texts;
demonstrate in texts the diverse intellectual and artistic movements;
compare various creative approaches to the allegorical journey;
assess the position of allegorical journeys in Czech prose in a European context
