Course objectives
Name of the subject: Poetry after The Downfall of Communism (situation of the young poetic generation of the 1990s). The course shall especially deal with the situation in which literature and particularly poetry find themselves after the downfall of Communism. The point consists in an analysis of extraliterary conditions (changes of the sociocultural context), literary self-reflection (discussions and polemics concerning the meaning and functions of literary criticism) and, primarily, inner development of literature (defining basic poetic types in the poetry of the 90s).
Syllabus
  • The courses first part will be dedicated to an analysis of secondary literature and an outline of literatures general situation. Subsequently, the lessons will be directed towards an analysis of literary-critical phenomena, manifestos and polemics of the early 90s, and the last part will deal with interpretations of particular collections by the authors of the young poetic generation. The credit shall be given upon the condition of an active participation in the course and an essay elaborated by the student.
