Course objectives
Aims and objectives: In a compact seminar, consisting of fine thematic units, Jan Čulík, Senior Lecturer in Czech Studies at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, will discuss selected works by Karel Čapek. The seminar will address the questions of motivation of Čapek´s work, its roots and its message. It will ask whether Čapek´s work is now hopelessly obsolete or whether it remains topical and can be regarded as part of the international literary cannon.

The students will be expected to write a seminar paper of 2000 words and submit it to the lecturer by email (Jan.Culik@glasgow.ac.uk) by 30th June 2011.
