Course objectives
The run of interactive lectures introduces the students to theoretical bases of the interdisciplinary approach to the isme of communication which is these days assigned as intercultural or transcultural communication. After having finished the course the students will be able to understand the main theoretical approaches focusing on social, sociocultural and linguistic phenomena at the background of the globalised and mobilised world, and also the scholarly explanation of the fiction of transborder economic and cultural phenomena. The students will also be provided with a set of terms which enables them to purify their theoretical reasoning about presented issues.
Syllabus
  • The main topics of the lectures are: culture, dimension, convergention and divergention of cultures, cultural identity, individdualism and collectivism, hierarchy and social distance, particularism and universalism, nonverbal communication, stereotypisation and prejudice-making, entocentrism and identity, culture and economics, multiculturality, ethics of intercultural communication.
