Course objectives
This class is devoted to the interpretation of texts. This time we will focus on central theories of interpretation, and not in first line on concrete texts. In the ends students should understand what are Russian Formalism, Structuralism, Post-Structuralism, Post-Colonial Studies, and Gender Studies. We will focus on Czech, Russian, and Polish literature. Prose and lyric from Puškin, Mickiewicz, Erben till prose of Turgenev, Przybyszewski, Neruda till Białoszewski, Petruševskaja, and Kundera. We will focus on the specific problems of aesthetics and nation in Czech literature in comparison to other Slavonic literatures, and to world literature of that time. We’ll ask how the Czech situation will differ from theoretical positions in East and West.
