Course objectives
Story-Based Prose for Children represents one of the most popular basic genres of children's and youth literature. There were many brilliant writers of this genre in the history of Czech literature. In this way, students will get information about the development of Czech Story-Based Prose for Children after the year 1989. In lectures students will acquire the knowledge of basic terms connected with the theory of children’s and youth literature. At the end of the course students should be able to: - understand and explain genre development in 20th century (after the year 1989); - use the information about the genre development for own interpretation of individual works; - analyse basic proses about children's life; - use relevant secondary literature, including scientific journals.

  • 1. Secondary literature; 2. Terminology; 3. Children's stories as one of the important genre of children's literature; 4. Genre development before the year 1989; 5. Children's stories after 1989 (basic problems and trend); 6. Analysis of representative books (by I. Procházková, I. Březinová, V. Steklač, M. Drijverová, J. Stránských and others)

Teaching methods
Seminars are based on the methods of presentation, interpretation of literary works and discussion about them. Students present acquired knowledge by oral and written forms of outcomes.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: active participation in seminar discussions (on the basis of own home preparation) and final essay. Students need to have 150 points for final essay and in Internet-based application.
