Course objectives
Kurz nabízí průhledy do nejrůznějších podob literatury pro mladé dospělé čtenáře. Věnuje se pojmu young adult literature (fiction) v teoretické rovině, současně však dominantní část kurzu bude zaměřena na analýzy, interpretace a především didaktické využití tohoto typu literatury.
Learning outcomes
Graduate of the course: - analyze and interpret young adult fiction texts using contemporary terminology; - briefly characterizes the development of the given type of literature in the Czech and world context; - explain the reasons for the different Czech and foreign approaches to young adult literature; - actively plan and implement activities that lead to the development of readership using young adult fiction.
Syllabus
  • The course is designed as a block. Block 1: Defining Young Adult Fiction (YAF). What YAF is and is not. The boundaries of YAF. The adolescent as reader. Different perceptions of YAF in our country and in the world (causes and consequences). Session 2: Contemporary world YAF - selected topics, trends and how to work with them at secondary school or at the second level of primary school. Block 3: On the history of YAF in a global context. Issues of its birth and application in the secondary school canon. Block 4: The (non-)existence of the Czech YAF. The thematic orientation of the individual blocks may change by agreement with the students at the first meeting.

Teaching methods
Active participation involving completion of continuous tasks in an interactive curriculum, discussion, brainstorming, analysis and interpretation.
Assessment methods
Active participation (max. 1 unexcused absence, others can be replaced after agreement with the teacher), completion of continuous assignments in IS (for blocks 2, 3 and 4).
