Knowedge about Czech literature and well-informed portrait of 20th century Czech culture.Skills to analyze short literary works from the point of view of the time, in which they were created and their position in author's literary pieces.

Course objectives
This seminar aims to develop students’ abilities to understand Czech literary production and present well-founded interpretation of these texts.
The seminar is focused on the interpretation of the selected texts of the Czech literature. The texts were naturally chosen not only for their literary quality, but also for their function in the Czech history – from the political and social point of view and its influence. Discussion and the commentary will help to define the specific features of the Czech literature development in the context of the Czech cultural history and traditions. The seminar is devoted to the literature of 20th century; nevertheless the older periods will also be inevitably mentioned.

The interpretation of the literary texts will help to place them in the continuity of the literary life and social situation in particular periods.
Assessment methods
Type of completion: credit. To get the credit it is necessary to work an essay (to 5 pages) on a given subject.
