Course objectives
Introduce the methodological basis of comparative mythology and its historical development. Inform about the mythological systems of the world and their sources. Point to analogical topics in different world's mythologies, interpret and compare them. Describe some linguistic and etymological connections of the names of mythological figures especially in the Indo-European area.

  • 1) 1st topic: Comparative mytohology as a dispscipline 2) 2nd topic: Creation myths 3) 3d topic: Deities and humans 4) 4th topic: Cosmology, solar and lunar myths 5) 5th topic: Death, evil and the underworld 6) 6th topic: Cultural hero, origin of civilization 7) 7th topic: Nature, animals, trees and mythology 8) 8th topic: King, political power and law 9) 9th topic: Warrior's world - war, violence and weapons 10) 10th topic: Sorcery, magic and sacred speech 11) 11th topic: Gender in mythology, role of woman 12) 12th topic: Time, end and extintion
