Course objectives
The course will deal with the world and Czech art of the second half of 20th century. Students will be able to understand the problems and interpret the main movements and works of this period.
Syllabus
  • 1. American abstract expresionism (Pollock, de Kooning, Kline). The role of C. Greenberg; 2. Abstract art in Europe, informel, tachism (Hartung, Wols, Fautrier, Dubuffet); 3. Abstraction and figuration (Giacometti, Bacon, Balthus); 4. Czech art after World War II; 5. Pop art in British (Hamilton, This it Tomorrow exhibition) and American art (Rauschenberg, Johns, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Oldenburg); 6. New realism and Yves Klein. ; 7. L. Fontana and the art of time and space. Kinetism and experiment (Schöffer). Fluxus; 8. Minimalism (Judd, Morris, Sol leWitt, Andre),conceptualism, land art a proces art; 9. Czech art of the 60s and after; 10. Contemporary tendencies.
