Course objectives
This course will open up questions on contemporary art and search for answers. Contemporary art will be studied not only in the actual social and political context but also in the continuity to modern tendencies of twentieth century art.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to interpret contemporary art not only in terms of formal analysis but also to find its meaning in wider culture, social and political context.
Syllabus
  • The themes and problems will change according to the current situation. The starting points could be: 1. Art and visual culture. 2. Author, individuality, identity 3. Spectacular or conceptual? 4. Further ways of "sculpture in the expanded field" 5. Reality, fiction, simulacrum 6. Art and politics,artistic activism 7. Local, national, international, global 8. Return to the past, apropriation, reinterpretation 9. Reflection of the problematic periods of Czech and European history in art and human destinies.
