Prerequisites
The course is intended for students of master degree studies. Basic knowledge on history of European baroque painting in 17th and 18th century is presupposed.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course introduces selected chapters from the history of the baroque wall painting in the Central Europe.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course student should be able to:
Describe and interpret a specific selected early modern fresco;
Show a basic knowledge of iconology and emblematics;
Describe basic technologies of early modern wall painting.
Syllabus
  • Current approaches to the study of early modern ceiling paintings, their research (corpus of ceiling painting, its pluses and minuses; restoration of ceiling paintings in the past and today).
  • Technique and technology of the ceiling painting.
  • “Concettismo”: concepts of paintings, contemporary published descriptions, iconology, emblematics.
  • Interpretation of ceiling paintings in context of other interior artistic decorations.
