Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The lecture will focus on the analysis of Flemish painting of the 17th century, with regard to the role and significance of P. P. Rubens. Emphasis will also be placed on other artistic personalities (Jan Brueghel I, Jacob Jordaens, Anthonis van Dyck and others), as well as aspects and roles of patrons and cultural background in the creation of individual commissions. Attention will also be paid to issues of historiography and methodology of research on Flemish art and the importance of Flemish painting (graphics) for Central Europe.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - define and describe the main elements and personalities of Flemish painting of the 17th century - describe the cultural background of individual art commissions - to analyze different methodological approaches to research of Flemish art of the 17th century - explain the role and importance of Flemish painting and prints for art in Central Europe
