Prerequisites
The course is intended for students of master degree studies. Basic knowledge on history of European baroque painting in 17th and 18th century is presupposed.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course introduces selected chapters from the history of the baroque ceiling painting in Central Europe and Italy.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course student should be able to:
- describe the specifics of ceiling paintings in the 17th and 18th century;
- describe the main iconographic topics of the baroque ceiling painting and explain their meaning;
- prove a basic orientation in the field of “concettismo”
Syllabus
  • “Concettismo”: art concepts and their creators, the visual arts and theory of the rhetoric.
  • Iconography and iconology: typical themes and motifs of wall paintings and the period art theory, a light and the sun as symbols in the Baroque painting.
  • Wall painting cycles in prophane buildings, quadri riportati.
