The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students not only into the development of applied arts and design, but primarily into the theoretical discourse, key concepts and terms in these fields; both in the international and local context. The lecture series is accompanied by a series of seminars Design II (1925-2000), and it is recommended to attend both courses. Design II follows Design I (lectures and seminars) from the autumn semester that covered the period up to 1925, but it is not a prerequisite to have attended these.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students will be able to:
- identify and describe the features of the main stages in the history of design;
- identify the key tendencies and directions in local and international design of the period;
- understand the main theoretical design concepts of the period;
- understand the circumstances in which design is created and produced;
- interpret the objects in their cultural, political, social and theoretical context.
