Course objectives
The purpose of this course is to present Czech sculpture of 20th century in European context and ask theoretical questions about modern sculpture. Student should be able to interpret forms and meaning of sculptures, objects and instalations.
Syllabus
  • 1. The position of painting and sculpture in modern art.; 2. Matter, gravity, volume, space.; 3. Subject: figure.; 4. Rodin and Czech sculpture.;5. Sculpture and cubism: Gutfreund.; 6.Reduction, elementary forms. Brancusi and Czech sculpture.; 7. Sculpture and object. Ready made a surrealist object.; 8. Sculpture and mouvement. Kinetism, Pešánek.; 9. New Czech sculpture after 1958.; 9. Constructivism and minimalism. 10. Subject: cube.; 11. Sculpture, object and instalation.; 12.The new monument and public sculpture.
