Course objectives
In the end of this course students will be able to interpret the relations between word and image in the visual culture of the 20th century.

  • 1. Beginnings: Stern, Caroll, Mallarmé. 2. Visualisation of the word: Apollinaire, futurists, Russian avant-garde. 3. Image in place of text: rebuses, pictograms, picture and object poems. 4. Paul Klee. 5. René Magritte. 6. Lettrism. 7. Henri Michaux. 8. Jiří Kolář. 9. Conceptual art. 10. Contemporary visual culture.
