Course objectives
Upon succesful completion of the course, student is able to: define streams and styles of Czech drama and theatre;
distinguish characteristic features of particular streams and styles of Czech theatre and drama in context of Czech cultural history;
identify specific elements of historical and modern forms of Czech theatre;
describe basic and typical features of Czech drama and theatre and compare them;

  • 3. Humanistic drama and theatre;
  • 4. Czech drama and theatre in period of late Renaissance;
  • 5. Baroque castle, court and school theatreo;
  • 6. Baroque professional and Czech folk theatre;
  • 7. Theatre and drama of National Renaissance;
  • 8. Czech Romantic drama and theatre;
  • 9. Modern Czech drama and theatre;
  • 10. Czech theatre and drama in between wars and during WWII.;
  • 11. Czech theatre and drama after 1945;
  • 12. Final conclusion, discussion;

Theoretical preparation – lecture (2 hours per week), discussion. Individual preparation – reading of texts. Individual consultation – when necessary.
