Course objectives
The course is devoted to theatrical aspects of cultural performances such as street protests and demonstrations in the Czech public space and their position in Czech culture. The students will be introduced to methodological and theoretical approaches in research of theatricality of public events, based on an interdisciplinary approach – especially in the field of sociocultural anthropology and sociology. The course is based on an autumn seminar DVBS09 Theatricality of Public Events. Graduates will be able to analyse the symbolic meanings of contemporary and historic demonstrations.
Syllabus
  • The course will be divided into three parts :;
  • 1. Theoretical and methodological introduction to the topic;
  • 2. Examples of cultural performances;
  • 3. Field research
