Course objectives
Dandyism, aestheticism, immoralism The aim of the course is to inquire into the representations and examinations of dandyism in 19th century literature and its connections with following concepts (such as): artificiality, refinement, decadence, elegance, wit, impenetrability, stylisation, insolence, impertinence, excentricity, individualism, superiority, heroism, strength, ennui, ideal, irony, romanticism, mannerism etc., i.e. with the concepts of both aesthetic and ethical validity. We will show for instance the influence of the philosophy of dandyism on the formation of some well-known literary characters and we will also try to delimit its place, possibilities and compass in general.
