Course objectives
The practical course deepens the competencies of ethnology students in the field research focused on the past. Oral history is an established research method that focuses on the documentation of biographical narratives and contemporary reflections on the past formed, among other things, by individual and collective memory, identity or contemporary attitudes of the narrator. The practical course will include an introductory seminar, regular meetings and consultations during the semester, study of methodological literature, implementation of field research, which can also be carried out in your own family environment. The condition for termination is the submission of the final report.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to use methods of oral history and describe their advantages and disadvantages. Students should be able to formulate the results of their research.
Syllabus
  • 1. introductory methodological seminar;
  • 2. defining the research task (two thematic areas: a) biographical narration; b) family memory and identity: narration of the origin of one's own family);
  • 3. conduct of research and continuous consultation;
  • 4. preparation of the final report and its comments.
