Course objectives
After completing the course, the students will;
familiarize themselves with general knowledge of folkloristic research in contemporary urban setting;
strenghten their skills in critical analysis of media texts;
be able to interpret historical and formal relationships between folk, popular and artificial culture.;
The course is devoted to the theory and methodology of ethnological research in contemporary urban setting, which can be characterized by syncretic combination of folk, popular and artificial texts. The course pays attention to analysis of both collective based and informally transmitted texts found in public space and media-transmitted forms, especially those transmitted by mass communication media and social networks. Apart from theoretically and methodologically primary folkloristics, course also familiarizes students with approaches of contemporary cultural and media studies, linguistic antropology and qualitative sociological trends.
