Course objectives
At the end of the cousre students should be able to understand the most influential theoretical approaches to genre cinema and to apply them on chosen movies; to compare genre production of the Eastern Bloc with movies produced in strongly different economical conditions - in Western Europe and in Hollywood. The students will understand the function of genre in the production system and in the culture policy of the Eastern Bloc countries. At the seminars, two movies will be analysed and compared: one Czech movie and one from another country of the Eeastern Bloc.

Obligatory participation at the seminars. Evaluation: the final presentation - 20%, the final essay 30%, active participation at the seminars 25%, knowledge of the texts in the reader 25%.
