Course objectives
This course is focused on the history of film medium from the end of the World War II to the present time and its changes as technology, economic institution, cultural product and art. The content will be fallen into eleven lessons: 1. Introduction. 2. The development of technologies (color, widescreen, stereo sound, television, video, digital technologies). 3. Hollywood ending (1945-1969). 4. Film art: neorealism. 5. Film art: new waves. 6. Film art: the other examples of auterism. 7. New Hollywood. 8. Eastern European cinema. 9. New cinemas in Asia, Africa and Latin America. 10. Documentary, avant-garde, underground, independents. 11. Politically critical cinema. The course is based on Film History: An Introduction written by Kristin Thompson and David Bordwell and a critical reading of this book (parts 4-6).
