Course objectives
In recent years, sometimes and somewhere, film studies are dominated by analyses at the expense of interpretations. Results: deficit of understanding; the analyst can describe how the piece of art is built but sometimes he or she is not able to understand it in full range of its message.
Various forms of interpretive exercises will be practiced in the seminar: discussion, essays. Films currently shown in cinemas, in the course Italian Cinema and during special screenings will be interpreted in the seminar.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
think about messages articulate by films
ask inspirational questions about meanings in films
formulate their own interpretations.
