Course objectives
The goal of the course is to introduce german cinema before 1945. After finishing the course, student should have basic knowledge about german cinema of this period, its socioeconomic context, most important directors, actors and artistic tendencies.

  • - Introductory lecture
  • - German cinema before 1918 - establishment of UFA company
  • - Cinema of Weimar republic (1918-1933) - expressionism, kammerspiel, film avant-garde
  • - Cinema of the Third Reich (1933-1945) - propaganda movies, film stars, expansion of german cinema, first color movies

Final exam will consist of 4 questions, from which three questions will be based on lectures and readings and the last one will be based on film projections.
