Course objectives
The course presents the development of Czech cinema since 1989. The course focuses on feature films as well as TV series and their production system, political background and key institutions such as State Film Fund international festivals. At the end of the course students should be able to understand key genres of Czech film; distinguish its functions in nowadays; explain work of important film-makers.
Learning outcomes
After finishing this course, students will: gain basic knowledge of Czech cinema production after 1989; understand the significance of local cinema in broader social context; understand Czech documentary cinema as a complex social phenomenon, not only as a sequence of aesthetically exceptional films; understand relationship between production, distribution and film introduction; broaden their existing knwoledge with less-featured films.
