Course objectives
When talking about film festivals, one might first think of celebrities walking the red carpet, a flood of journalists and viewers trying to catch unforgettable encounters with the stars, or exclusive world premieres of the most anticipated titles. However, these images only cover a few of the most prestigious international film festivals. The diversity of the entire field is much richer. Film festivals vary in size, venue or focus on a particular type of film or audience. As diverse as their range is, so too is the set of perspectives from which film festivals can be examined. This course is designed as an introduction to the study of film festivals, introducing a range of approaches and methods for examining them.
