After completing the course, students will be able to:

- Understand the changes in the film industry, its professions and professional hierarchies

- Understand new tendencies in production and postproduction processes

- Undergo training in ethnographic perspectives on film practice and film teaching practice

- Practice communication of the shared vision within the film crew

- Practice writing of an ethnographic paper

  • DAY 1
  • Lecture I: Intro to Industry & Production Roles/Hierarchy. Industry-relevant training, Filmmaking Teaching and Practice (praxis, authentic learning, visual references, ideation/analysis skills)
  • Seminar/Workshop I: Script breakdown & analysis (visual approach) practical exercise – reflect on creative process & teaching method
  • DAY 2
  • Lecture II: Cinematography & Post-Production/VFX (PhD Alex – artistic ownership, shift from production to post-production, impact on traditional roles and hierarchies)
  • Seminar/Workshop II: Previsualisation & storyboarding practical exercise – reflect on approach and learning practice
  • DAY 3
  • Lecture III: Emerging Technologies ( Virtual Production / Motion Capture / Game-Engine previz ) and their impact on industry practice
  • Seminar III: Effect of disruptive workflows in Industry, Hybrid roles / workforce upskilling (AI-Deep Fakes, Metahumans Evolution, creative potential / audience expectation) and problematics (sustainability / IP ownership / cost / entry threshold). Debate the role of industry, institutions and organisations in supporting and directing the trend

Výukové metody
The course is going to be divided into three days, when a lecture and a seminar will take place. These two will always explore one topic.
The majority of lectures and seminars will take place in the seminar room G03 at Gorkého 7, with exception of L1, scheduled in the screening room C34.

L1: Wednesday November 22nd, 12:00-13:40 at C34

Metody hodnocení
The assessment of this course will consist of two parts.
First: before the start of L1 on Wednesday November 22nd, students will have to pass a short test checking their knowledge of the required articles and chapters (already uploaded in the IS system). The reading consists of items and paradigms, which will help you with the second part of the assessment.

This consists of ethnographic research paper, which will reflect upon the teaching process and practice in the classroom of the FAVzp001 course. The essay should be written in English, be 6 pages long and is due no later than Friday December 22nd.

Informace učitele
Dr. Alex Boutellier is a freelance cinematographer with over 15 years of professional experience in the film and television industry. His credits include feature length and short films, documentaries and commercials for television, and web content such as news and advertisements for corporate clients. Originally from Switzerland, he is currently based in the UK. A scholarship recipient of the London Film School and the University of Exeter 'Film by Practice' PhD program, his research on the impact of disruptive new technologies on the role of the cinematographer in the modern film industry was be completed in 2019.

Panos Raptis is a filmmaker with a multifaceted background across both art and science. The Secret Life of Materials is his latest feature-length production; a documentary spearheading a Europe-wide science outreach project.
His work ranges from short fiction and TV entertainment to corporate communication in Greece and in the UK. His directing and producing skills are complemented by his experience as an editor since 2003. He studied filmmaking at UCLA and London Film School, but his first degrees are in Physics and Optics.
Education and outreach is prominent in his career. He has taught in New York, London and Prague a range of subjects including visual storytelling and editing. The common denominator across his diverse work is narrative expression and trans-discipline communication. He is currently developing a fiction feature film and two projects in intercultural education and multi-media-based science communication.
