Course objectives
The lecture is aimed to present life, institutions and geography of French:geographic conditions, administrative division, folk customs, etc.). The knowledge of life, institutions and culture is considered to be a necessary part of the study of a language because it enables better orientation in the given "milieu" and better understanding of the extra-lingustic reality. This knowledge is important especially for future translators and interpreters.
Syllabus
  • Different topical themes will be discussed. Visits of expert lecturers dealing with these themes.
  • Several examples of traditionally discussed themes:
  • - France - physical and economic aspects
  • - regions
  • - standard French and dialects
  • - Woman in French society
  • - The French and the EU, etc.

Active participation in the course (only 2 missings are accepted)
