Course objectives
The French "New Novel" in the context of differents attempts to renew the novel in the second half of the XXth century.
Syllabus
  • Realism and traditional conceptions of the novel. Problematics of the development of the novel as a genre in the 20th century. Theory of the French "new novel", its aesthetic and philosophical foundation. "New novel" and reality. Selected representatives with respect to some characteristic techniques of the "new novel" - Robbe-Grillet, Butor, Sarraute, Duras, Pinget, Ollier.
