Course objectives (in Czech)
The course is based on video-screenings of the masterpieces of the Czech cinema, especially from the period of the 1960s including the Czech New Wave (Milos Forman, Jiri Menzel, Vera Chytilova, Ivan Passer etc.). Literature: Hames, Peter: The Czechoslovak New Wave (Berkeley, Los Angeles, London 1985); Liehm, Mira and Liehm, Antonin J.: The Most Important Art: Eastern European Film After 1945 (Berkeley, Los Angeles 1977); Skvorecky, Josef: All the Bright Young Men and Women (Toronto 1971). Assessment: an essay.
