Course objectives
The aim of the course is to gain a basic grasp of the problems and methodology associated with the history of the Early Modern Age. The Course Contents: The course deal s with the common history of the Absolutism in West and Central Europe between years 1550-1789. The contents of the course is focused on the history of Franće, Holy Empire and Habsburg Monarchy. The special attention will be drawn to the role of culture and fine arts (the art of absolutism x the state of baroque), the role of the state theory, constitutional mentality and the process of establishing bureaucracy. During the course the texts and archive documents will be studied and interpreted.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to: describe a general history of European absolutism in the period 1550-1789, with a focus on absolutism in the 17th century in France, Germany and the Habsburg monarchy; interpret the part on culture and art (the art of absolutism in the baroque state), on the legal mentality and bureaucratisation as basic state-forming elements in the epoch of absolutism.
